Role summary
Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) is seeking a full-time retinal grader to join their team. The role involves assessing retinal images to identify the presence and severity of diabetic eye disease using specialised software. This requires high concentration and attention to detail, working within strict criteria and standard operating procedures. Full training will be provided, including support to complete an accredited Level 4 Diploma in Diabetic Eye Grading.
Key responsibilities
- Grade and assess retinal images, identifying those requiring priority grading.
- Apply appropriate action and management to individual screening episodes.
- Follow strict criteria and work within programme standard operating procedures and guidelines.
- Deal with queries, refer participants to secondary care, and interpret feedback after referral.
- Engage with DESW participants, responding to queries and explaining screening results.
- Liaise with other departments, service clinicians, and secondary care contacts.
Essential criteria
- A' level or equivalent or technical qualification.
- Experience of working within a team
- Ability to prioritise work.
- Possess IT skills
- Demonstrate good attention to detail
- Normal colour vision in both eyes (glasses are acceptable).
Desirable criteria
- Commitment to continuous learning.
- NHS/Ophthalmology experience.

Job summary
Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW) are seeking an enthusiastic and committed full time retinal grader to join our busy grading team.
You will be responsible for assessing retinal images and identifying the presence and severity of diabetic eye disease (diabetic retinopathy). This is a specialised role, using dedicated software to examine the photographic image in detail. This will require high levels of concentration and review, and extended periods of time using display screen equipment.

Main duties of the job
A retinal graders main duty is the grading and assessment of retinal images and identifying those that require priority grading, applying appropriate action and management to the individual's screening episode. Undertaking additional duties will also be required, such as dealing with queries, referring participants to secondary care and interpreting feedback after referral.
