Role summary
This role is for a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner within Northamptonshire's Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service. The service provides assessment and treatment for women experiencing or at risk of moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and up to the child's first birthday. The post involves delivering evidence-based interventions, providing pre-conception advice, and offering training to professionals. Key responsibilities
- Provide assessment and treatment to women experiencing or at an increased chance of experiencing a moderate to severe mental health condition during pregnancy and up to the child's 1st birthday.
- Deliver high quality evidence based interventions.
- Provide pre-conception advice for women with a known mental illness wishing to conceive.
- Provide training and education to professionals alongside experts by experience.
- Provide supervision to junior staff and mentorship to students.
Essential criteria
- RMN qualification and evidence of current registration on NMC register
- Qualification to degree level or equivalent
- Training to level 3 in Safeguarding children and young people or willingness to undertake
- Mentorship qualification or willingness to undertake
- Experience working with women with serious mental illness
- Experience of risk assessment and risk management
- Experience of undertaking detailed mental health assessments and developing care plans
- Experience of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working including with statutory agencies
- Substantial experience of managing a busy caseload of clients with a range of mental health problems
- Specialist knowledge of perinatal mental health conditions and interventions or willingness to undertake training.
- Specialist knowledge in attachment and infant mental health or willingness to undertake training.
- Ability to provide specialist assessments and interventions to women in the perinatal period/willing to undertake training
Desirable criteria
- Specialist training in perinatal and infant mental health
- Experience of working with women in the perinatal period
- Experience of liaison working with obstetrics and maternity services
- Experience of previous innovative practice, leading change or service development
- Experience of planning and delivery of training in response to identified needs
- Knowledge regarding risk within the perinatal period, red flags and MBRRACE-UK confidential enquiries in to maternal deaths
- Knowledge of National policy and service development issues relating to perinatal mental health

Job summary

Main duties of the job
We have an opportunity for two Band 6 roles as a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner to cover Maternity Leave (1 x 0.6 wte and 1 x 1.0 wte or 2 x 0.8 wte). Please state on your application your preferred hours.
We are looking to recruit two Mental Health Nurses with significant experience who have a passion for delivering evidence based interventions. Applicants will need to have a genuine interest in Perinatal Mental Health and the development of the service, excellent communication skills, the ability to provide supervision to junior staff and mentorship to students.
The Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service also offers pre-conception advice for woman with a known mental illness wishing to conceive and provide training and education to professionals
