Role summary
This is an opportunity for an experienced Children's Nurse to join the Nottingham Children's Hospital Diabetes Team as a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse. The role involves managing a caseload of children and young people with diabetes, providing care in various settings, and educating families and professionals. The post holder will be trained in complex diabetes technology and will support inpatient and outpatient care, as well as community visits. Excellent communication and organisational skills are essential for this role within a dynamic multi-professional team.
Key responsibilities
- Work as a specialist nurse within an established multi-professional team.
- Support inpatient care, provide education and support for families, and assist in multi-professional clinics.
- See patients independently in nurse clinics and provide clinical advice to families and schools to prevent illness deterioration.
- Provide education and support to nursery and school staff to facilitate children's return to routines.
- Be involved with initiating patients on new technologies and providing ongoing education to reduce complications.
- Undertake community visits, requiring a full UK driving licence and access to a car.
Essential criteria
- Hold a full UK driving license and have access to a car
- RN Child, RSCN
- NMC Registration
- Experience working with children and young people with diabetes
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to demonstrate IT skills, use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Able to organise and prioritise a complex patient caseload
Desirable criteria
- Accredited diabetes course, or willingness to undertake
- Experience of dealing with complex safeguarding situations

Job summary
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic registered Children's Nurse to work within the Nottingham Children's Hospital Diabetes Team as a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse.
The Nottingham Children's Hospital looks after around 450 children and young people with diabetes. Approximately 70% of our patients are on insulin pumps, CGM and a variety of Hybrid Closed Loop Systems. We are nationally recognised and continue to achieve some of the best diabetes outcomes in the country.
Excellent team working, effective communication, being highly organised and motivated, in addition to previous experience in caring for children and young people with diabetes is desirable. The post holder will have post registration experience working with children in hospital, outpatients and/or community settings.
The new post holder will be trained and supported in learning about complex technology used in CYP with Type 1 Diabetes to enable them to hold a caseload of patients and manage their care in a variety of settings, give emergency advice and contribute to training other healthcare and educational professionals.
You will be hospital based with a responsibility to see children and young people in inpatient and outpatient settings,
