Role summary
This role is for a Peer Support Worker (PSW) who has lived experience of mental health challenges or caring for someone with them. The PSW will provide one-to-one and group support to young adults aged 18-25, drawing on their own experiences to inspire hope and promote recovery. They will help individuals achieve personal recovery goals, support life transitions, and connect them with community resources. The role involves working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and contributing to service development.

- Level 3 certificate in Peer Support or willingness to complete
- Ability to use personal experiences to support others and demonstrate empathy
- Ability to use judgement & know when to escalate risk
- Able to understand and adhere to the boundaries of peer support working
- Sensitivity to the needs of service users and their families

- Personal understanding of how to manage stress and when to access support

Job summary
The role of a Peer Support Worker (PSW) has been developed specifically for people who have lived experience of mental health challenges, or experience of caring for a close friend or close family member experiencing mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, peer support workers will inspire hope and belief that recovery is possible in others. They make a positive contribution to the lives of others by using their lived experience.
Main duties of the job
The Peer Support Worker (PSW) will provide one-to-one and group-based peer support to young adults aged 18-25 within the Solihull Pathway, drawing on their own lived experience of mental health challenges to inspire hope, promote recovery and support self-determination. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, the PSW will build trusting relationships based on mutuality and support individuals to identify and achieve their personal recovery goals.
