Role summary
This is a pivotal role for a dedicated and enthusiastic Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band 5) to join Rydon Ward 1, an inpatient multi-disciplinary team within Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. You will support individuals with acute mental health needs, providing high-quality, compassionate, and recovery-focused care to adults experiencing severe mental health difficulties. The role involves leading clinical management, administering medication, monitoring patient wellbeing, and maintaining accurate documentation. You will work collaboratively to promote recovery, independence, and social inclusion while ensuring patient safety and dignity.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the clinical management of designated service users, including assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care.
- Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to deliver person-centred care.
- Administer prescribed medication in line with Trust policy and professional standards.
- Undertake physical health observations and monitor changes in patients' mental and physical wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and risk assessments in accordance with Trust policies.
- Act as a keyworker for allocated patients, ensuring continuity of care.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Mental Health Nursing.
- Registered Mental Health Nurse with active NMC registration.
- Have a commitment to continuous professional development.
- Have experience in a relevant clinical setting.
- Have a good knowledge and understanding of current nursing practice and national guidelines.
- Must be a car driver with a valid driving licence or have access to transport with appropriate business insurance in order to travel throughout the Trust, to meet the needs of the service.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience supervising junior colleagues or students.
