Role summary
This is a full-time Band 5 Occupational Therapist position within the west adult learning disability community team. Key responsibilities
- Use Model of Human Occupation and associated assessments to identify person-centred needs and guide Occupational Therapy practice.
- Develop knowledge and skills of effective approaches for adults with a learning disability under senior guidance.
- Liaise with clients, families, multi-disciplinary team members, and other agencies.
- Complete reports in an accessible format to ensure Occupational Therapy recommendations are understood and implemented.
- Provide training to clients and carers on facilitating purposeful engagement in self-care, productivity, and leisure activities.
- Facilitate safe and effective discharge from the Learning Disability team.
Essential criteria
- Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
- Health Care Professions Council registration
- Experience of working within a relevant clinical setting
- Skills in clinical assessment, intervention and evaluation
- Ability to engage people who have significant communication impairments
- Willingness to work with people who have behaviours that challenge
- Able to communicate sensitively and effectively with service users and carers
- Able to manage a caseload, with supervision and support, balancing conflicting demands and prioritising as required
- Understanding of the roles of colleagues in health and social care
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with people with learning disabilities
- Presentation skills
- Knowledge and experience of using MOHO and associated assessments
- Some knowledge of current legislation, national policies and guidance relevant to people with a learning disability
