Role summary

The Black Country has successfully implemented a keyworker model and is expanding its offer to cover all ages with Learning Disability and/or Autism. Peer workers will promote positive community engagement through individual and group work, empowering individuals and building links with community partners. The role requires motivated individuals with knowledge of relevant systems, either professional or lived experience, to make a difference.

Key responsibilities

  • To promote community engagement with our cohort who have come through the keyworker system.
  • To be an effective communicator which includes listening to our young people.
  • To develop and facilitate a group which promotes social inclusion, confidence building and a sense of belonging for our cohort.
  • To support people on an individual basis to work towards specific goals to promote impendence and inclusion.
  • To work closely with the keyworker team and supporting in the development of the service across the Black Country.
  • To network with partner agencies having up to date information around current offers to sign post our cohort to.

  • Experience of being part of a team
  • Experience of helping others
  • Effective communicator

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of leading a group
  • Some understanding of children's mental health and human rights and ability to/willingness to learn and undertake further training
  • Ability to learn of Black Country locally available provision.

Job summary

The Black Country has been successful in implementing the keyworker model and has achieved success in keeping individuals in the community. The service has now expanded our offer to cover all ages with a diagnosis of Learning Disability and/or Autism. The peer workers would be responsible for promoting positive engagement within the community, this will include individual and group based work. They will work both independently and alongside the keyworkers to empower and upskill alongside building links with our community partners. The service is seeking individuals who have knowledge and understanding of the systems this can be both from a professional or lived experience perspective. The successful candidate(s) would be motivated and positive in their approach, keen to work with others and make a difference.
