Role summary
This is a newly created full-time fixed-term role for an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Secretary / Assistant Team Leader to join the Psychology Administration Team. You will be responsible for daily administrative tasks supporting a large Psychology service, including patient coordination, appointment management, and deputising for the Team Leader. The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills, IT proficiency, and the ability to work under pressure. It is based at Salford Royal Hospital with a combination of onsite and remote working.
Key responsibilities
- Demonstrate excellent organisational skills, flexibility, initiative, and professionalism.
- Possess proven secretarial skills, excellent audio typing ability, diary management, and telephone manner.
- Work to set deadlines and remain calm under pressure in a busy environment.
- Coordinate patient care with surgical colleagues for patients undergoing specific treatments.
- Perform daily tasks including outcoming appointments, answering phones, booking appointments, email management, and processing referrals.
- Deputise for the current Team Leader and support managerial colleagues and stakeholders.
- Be responsible for supervision, staff rotas, raising invoices, and rostering data input for leave and sickness.
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent
- ECDL or equivalent
- Significant months experience in a health care setting
- Proven IT skills
- Good communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Customer care or equivalent qualification
- Medical terminology qualification
- Previous experience in similar role and/ or managing staff

Job summary
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic individual to join our Psychology Administration Team as a Medical Secretary / Assistant Team Leader.
This is a newly created role which provides great opportunity for collaboration and autonomy, as part of an established administration team. You will be responsible for the daily administrative tasks that are necessary in supporting a large Psychology service.
Broad experience of NHS IT systems and experience in a secretarial job are essential to this role. Applicants with experience in an NHS /medical setting would be an advantage.
You will need to possess excellent communication skills and be able to provide the required support for queries, questions, advice, and provide support for both patients and the widespread clinical team, comprising of Neuropsychologists, Clinical health Psychologists, and Staff support Psychologists. In return, you will join a supportive team as part of an expanding and growing service.
This post is based at the Salford Royal site, in the Clinical Sciences Building.
There will be a combination of onsite working and working from home (to be discussed at interview)
This post is full time 37.5 hours a week, working Monday - Friday
