Role summary
This role is for a Health Care Support Worker within the Adult Community Nursing Service, Night Nursing team. You will provide direct patient care, undertaking clinical duties like venepuncture, vital sign monitoring, and simple wound dressings after training. The position requires flexibility to adapt to service re-design and involves working overnight and twilight shifts across the Hounslow locality. It is a 6-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE Standard; A-C including English and Maths
- Practical knowledge acquired through training, short courses and/or experience in health or social care related setting
Desirable criteria
- Health Care certificate
- Providing care in a health or social care related setting
- Working in a healthcare environment
- Working in a community setting
- Professional standards including confidentiality and clinical governance
- Infection prevention and control standards
- Understanding of the impact of Mental Health e.g., dementia, depression, on the management of medical and long-term conditions
- Risk assessment and management
- knowledge of health and safety and personal safety issues
- Safeguarding Adults & Children
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Basic competency in literacy and numeracy
- IT literate with ability to use databases and other software packages
- Able to produce well written and timely clinical records
- Basic clinical skills e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring
- Following training, can work without direct or with minimal supervision, and is able to recognise own limitations
- Ability to follow guidelines and procedures within agreed boundaries
- Ability to participate in service and organisational change
- Ability to undertake administrative and clerical duties as required
- Ability to review and maintain clinical supplies and equipment
- Developed clinical skills, e.g., continence care, containment product assessment and review
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to use own initiative and problem solve and know when to report issues and seek advice from senior staff
- Committed to lifelong learning and achieving full compliance with the competencies and standards of this role and for career progression
- Willingness to undertake training and competencies for additional clinical interventions to support service development
- Willingness to learn and implememt new ways of working, including using digital solutions with patients and in the operation of the service
- Ability to travel to multiple sites; car driver and has access to own transport
- Flexible enough to take on shifts required to safely cover the service and patient visits following service re-design.

An exciting opportunity has come up for the Adult Community Nursing Service, Night Nursing. We are currently looking for a skilled person who can do 21 hours a week (1 overnight shift- 11 hours and 2 twilight shifts- 10 hours) to work across the Hounslow locality based at Clayponds Hospital on a Fixed Term Contract for 6 months to cover maternity. The service operates from 19:00 until 07:00 seven days a week. The service has 2 shifts, 19:00 until 12 midnight (Twilight) and 19:00 until 7:00 AM (Overnight).
Please note that the service is currently undergoing service re-design and the operational hours will change by 7th December 2026 from 7pm-7am to 8pm-8am under phase 1 transformation project. The phase 2 (TBC) will be happening shortly after the implantation of phase 1 with the Night Service re-design involving the twilight and the overnight shifts. We are looking for someone who will be very flexible in supporting the new service structure in the future.
