Role summary
Join the Clinical Measurement and Engineering Unit as a Clinical Scientist or Pre-Registrant Clinical Scientist, specializing in gait analysis. This role involves performing 3D motion capture assessments for patients with gait-affecting conditions and clinically reporting findings to aid treatment planning. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and contribute to research, development, and quality improvement projects. Key responsibilities
- Perform gait analysis assessments, including 3D motion capture on patients in a clinical gait lab environment.
- Report investigations clinically to aid treatment planning.
- Collaborate within a multidiscipline team of clinical and technical staff.
- Present clinical findings at MDT to the wider team, including Orthopaedic Surgeons.
- Contribute to and lead quality assurance and R&D projects in technical and scientific applications.
- Supervise and train less experienced staff and trainees.
Essential criteria
- First or second class honours degree in a relevant science or engineering subject
- Appropriate post-graduate degree at master's level, or equivalent level of specialist knowledge
- Registered Clinical Scientist, or working towards registration
- Specialist in-depth knowledge o Relevant anatomy, physiology and pathology knowledge o Relevant legislation, standards and protocols including infection control o Understanding of the functioning and safe use of physiological measurement equipment
- Experience of working with patients
- Knowledge of Governance issues including ethical and regulatory considerations
- Up to date knowledge of Trust policies and procedures regarding control of infection
- Problem solving skills
- Strong IT skills including database and spreadsheet use
- Ability to communicate effectively with other health professionals and patients
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Excellent patient and interpersonal skills
- Able to work as part of multidisciplinary team
- Able to work independently under indirect supervision
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to travel between service sites
- The ability to undertake complex calculation, data analysis and to issue reports on quantitative techniques
- Ability to carry out research and development working as part of a team

Desirable criteria
- Higher degree in a relevant subject
- Knowledge and experience of some of the clinical measurement services offered by the section: visual electro-diagnostic testing, intra-operative monitoring, gait analysis, microvascular assessment and GI physiology
- Experience of working under quality management systems
- Understanding of audit, quality assurance and calibration requirements
- Experience of performing, publishing & presenting research
- Knowledge of study design and medical statistics
- Experience in training and supervision of trainees
- Formal presentations at local, national or international meetings
- Use of library and information resources to find, acquire and disseminate new knowledge
- Leadership qualities
- Able to work independently within professional guidelines

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team of Healthcare Scientists working in the Clinical Measurement and Engineering Unit of Northern Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering. This post is based in the Northern Gait Analysis Service.
This role involves working in a clinical gait laboratory environment performing assessments including 3D motion capture for both adult and children with a wide range of presentations which affect their gait, including those with complex disabilities.
We expect that the successful candidate will be able to develop and lead research and development and quality improvement projects in these services and the wider unit.
