Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated paediatric nurse to join the East Kent Children's diabetes team. The role involves providing expert nursing care, support, and advice to children and young people with diabetes, working under the direction of specialist nurses. The team manages a large caseload, primarily Type 1 diabetes, utilizing advanced insulin pump and sensor technology. The successful candidate will develop professionally within the speciality of childhood and adolescent diabetes.
Essential criteria
- Aware of the Trust vision, mission and values
- Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbally. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
- Ability to develop working relationships with others Time management and personal organisation skills.
- Clinical/Experience
- Recent clinical experience within an acute Trust or Paediatric Community setting).
- Delivery of evidence-based practice
- Demonstrates child focused approach
- Basic IT skills
- Demonstrates an ability to teach staff, parents, patients and other professionals
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in paediatric diabetes grade 5/6
- Experience of caring for Children with diabetes
- Evidence of on-going professional development
- Evidence of facilitating learning in practice
- Registered Nurse/Child branch
- Completion of Preceptorship
- Mentorship/ENB 998
- Governance
- Understanding of data protection principles
- Have means to travel in a timely way between the main hospital sites within East Kent
- Possess a full driver licence and have access to a car that can be used for work purposes, subject to the provisions of the Equality Act (2010)

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the East Kent Children's diabetes team.
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated paediatric nurse who would like to develop professionally within the speciality of childhood and adolescent diabetes.
With one of the largest services for children and young people with diabetes in the South East Coast and London network we can offer you a rewarding, flexible and supportive secondment working alongside experienced and specialist multidisciplinary staff within the children's diabetes team,
With the majority of clients having Type1 diabetes and approximately 90% currently using integrated insulin pump and sensor technology vast experience in the use of the latest diabetes related technologies is available.
