Role summary
This role is for a resilient, compassionate, and recovery-focused Band 4 Community Support Worker within the mental health team at HMP Eastwood Park, a female prison. You will work with an experienced multi-disciplinary team to provide stabilisation interventions and ongoing support to service users in acute distress or under Care Programme Approach. The position requires working flexibly in a challenging environment, primarily Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours a week. You will contribute to high-quality, recovery-focused care for women in the prison setting.
Key responsibilities
- Provide stabilisation interventions to service users in acute distress.
- Deliver ongoing interventions as part of a care plan with service users managed under Care Programme Approach.
- Liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team and external agencies involved in service user care.
- Undertake and deliver defined activities and interventions for an identified caseload, either one-to-one or in group settings.
Essential criteria
- Well-developed listening skills and effective verbal communication skills and ability to communicate both face to face, via email and by telephone.
- Written communication skills, with the ability to contribute to written reports, maintain accurate records and interpret relevant clinical information effectively.
- Ability to form and sustain a trusting relationship with service users/carers.
- Team-working skills, and ability to function effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary setting.
- IT skills: ability to use email, Microsoft word and basic clinical records databases.
- Ability to articulate and demonstrate compassionate, recovery-focused care that values diversity and equality.
- Education and Qualification
- Possession of, or the ability and willingness to work towards, an appropriate Level 5 vocational qualification (Foundation Degree in Mental Health or Health and Social Care)
Desirable criteria
- Training in an allied field such as counselling, mediation or advocacy.
- Training in psychosocial interventions (e.g. CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing).
- Experience and Knowledge
- Significant experience of working in a mental health setting
- Sound knowledge and understanding of mental health issues, taking a positive, nonjudgemental approach towards service users, carers, colleagues and members of the public.
- Experience of mental health services, as a user, carer, volunteer or worker.
- Experience of teaching / training individuals or groups.
- Experience of teaching / training individuals or groups.
- Empathy for individuals who have experienced mental health problems and ability to cope with behaviour which may be challenging at times.
