Role summary

This is an opportunity for a Band 6 Sister/Deputy Ward Manager nurse on Ward 5A at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital. Key responsibilities

  • Provide specialist knowledge to all Nursing staff on the ward/ department.
  • Promote a critical, analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care ensuring that the ward/ department environment is responsive to current issues.
  • Assist in the review and update of procedures and protocols relating to the care of patients.
  • Develop methods for identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.
  • Explore and undertake expanded practice to optimise patient care as required within specialist area, in accordance with Trust policies.

Job summary

An opportunity for a band 6 sister/Deputy Ward Manager nurse on ward 5A at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, one site of the Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be part of the 5A family which prides itself on professionalism, teamwork and patient and colleague support. This ward, which includes an enhanced recovery unit, specialises in hepatic, pancreatic and biliary surgery and all general surgery.

This post is for a band 6 to work alongside the ward manager to help with nursing leadership on ward 5A. You will have excellent clinical and communication skills being able to give practical guidance to nursing staff, along with direction and support to the multidisciplinary team. In addition the post holder will be supporting the ward manager in ensuring good practice by taking part in audit, facilitating learning and development of nursing staff, and general management required to run a busy surgical ward.

Experience in surgical nursing is a necessity, HPB experience is an advantage.
