Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative and highly motivated Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist to join a dynamic Neurodevelopmental (ND) Team in Birmingham. The role involves assessing and supporting children with social communication difficulties and profound and multiple difficulties within a multidisciplinary team. You will manage a complex caseload, provide clinical supervision to junior staff, and contribute to service development and evaluation. The position requires strong clinical and caseload management skills, with a passion for working with children with SEND and an interest in Autism assessment and diagnosis.
Key responsibilities
- Carrying out specialist assessments and developing programmes of care for clients, families, and their environments.
- Negotiating with multi-disciplinary team colleagues and carers for complex case management and instigating appropriate referrals.
- Using specialist knowledge for clinical judgments and decision-making, including differential diagnosis for highly complex cases.
- Identifying and planning appropriate interventions, delivering assessment and therapy in groups and one-to-one sessions.
- Taking responsibility for delegating therapy programmes to assistants and acting as a mentor and supervisor.
- Providing appropriate treatment based on best practice, adapting to client needs and advising other professionals and parents.
Essential criteria
- oFirst degree level qualification, relevant to service area
- oHCPC Licence to practice
- oFull Membership of Professional body , relevant to service area
- oEvidence of recent relevant CPD activities in specialist area
- oRelevant training in specialist area e.g. post graduate dysphagia qualification, Sensory-Integration, neurological rehabilitation, neurodiversity
- oRelevant training in clinical leadership
- oExtensive experience of diagnostic assessment and intervention in specialist area of service
- oExtensive experience of working as a specialist therapist with children and families in a range of multi-disciplinary and / or multi-agency teams in Local Authority and Health settings
- oExtensive experience of managing a mixed and complex caseload of children and young people with a range of developmental disorders and delays
- oSignificant experience of managing safeguarding concerns and an understanding of local processes
- oRelevant experience of using leadership skills for service development
- oSignificant experience in providing support and supervision to colleagues and other professionals
- oExtensive experience of providing complex written and verbal information to others to a high standard
- oSignificant experience of delivering successful/effective training to a range of qualified professionals in the area of specialism
- oKnowledge of the national and political agenda influencing health services and specific service area
- oCompetent in using electronic systems relevant to practice in the Trust and in the clinical area
Desirable criteria
- oMasters post graduate qualification, relevant to service area
