Role summary
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking an experienced Information Governance Officer to join their Data Security and Protection Team. This role involves supporting information governance, data protection, records management, and freedom of information compliance across the Trust. The post holder will provide specialist advice, lead on IG initiatives, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and NHS standards. They will also support digital transformation and innovation by embedding governance requirements.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent level of professional qualification relevant to role
- Evidence of continued development in IG/ Data protection
Desirable criteria
- Specialist training in relation to IG subjects. E.g. ISEB Data Protection Qualification or Freedom of Information
- Qualified in or knowledge of records management requirements
- Experience/Skills
- Specialist knowledge of Governance issues relevant to the NHS including relevant specialist organisational / procedural / policy knowledge in relation to records and information management
- Experience using the DSPT toolkit
- Good understanding of the application of Information governance in a healthcare setting
- Writing policy/ procedure/strategy documents
- Experience of auditing in an NHS organisation
- Understanding of NHS services and patient/information flows
- Organisational skills - able to manage an operational framework that will deliver enhanced and equitable information governance across the Trust
- Ability to write complex strategic and operational briefing papers, reports, policies and protocols

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting information governance, data protection, records management, information sharing, and freedom of information compliance across the Trust and wider Group organisations. Working closely with senior leaders, digital teams, service transformation leads, and clinical services, you will provide specialist advice and assurance to support the safe, lawful and effective use of information.
