Role summary
This role involves leading the Systems Operations team, managing its performance, and ensuring the operational capacity and functionality of the server estate. Responsibilities include managing infrastructure projects, DR/BC planning, line managing engineers, and providing technical leadership. The lead will also investigate specialist D&I issues and ensure structured problem, incident, and change management processes. The role is primarily remote with some on-site duties and includes participation in an on-call rota.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a team of Systems Operations Engineers and coordinate the design, development, support, maintenance, and improvement of systems infrastructure.
- Ensure the application of security patches, server upgrades, migrations, daily maintenance, SQL maintenance, backup maintenance and testing, AD group policy, and on-call cover.
- Assist with D&I's Problem Management function, including dealing with problems within SLA, reviewing metrics for trends, and producing recommendations and reports.
- Ensure the Systems Operations team performs all relevant compliance checks and controls.
- Act as Deputy/System Manager and/or Product Expert for Systems Operations related tools like MS Active Directory, MS Server & SQL, and Commvault, ensuring they are up to date and fit for purpose.
- Support and assist other D&I Section Managers with testing, improving, repairing, and maintaining the IT estate, ensuring correct revision levels for equipment, operating systems, and software/firmware.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant demonstrable experience

- Equivalent demonstrable experience in managing enterprise class server infrastructure
- Experience in leading technical teams from inception to delivery of projects and new systems.
- Demonstrable experience in leading technical teams from inception to delivery of projects and new systems
- Previous demonstrable employment in a technical leadership role.
- Experience of managing large-scale, complex systems and planning system migrations/ refreshes.
- Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent relevant demonstrable experience
- Demonstrable experience of project management/technical leadership
- Working within the Trusts, with other NHS Trusts, national forums and technology specific groups.
- Networking: being able to work within the Trusts, with other NHS Trusts, national forums and technology specific groups
- Knowledge and experience of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) standard.
- oMicrosoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) or equivalent relevant demonstrable experience

Job summary
The D&I Systems Operations Lead will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Systems Operations team.Ensures that the Systems Manager is informed with regards to the operational capacity and functionality of the server estate. This includes improvements, risks, changes, and problems.Manages multiple infrastructure projects, delivery of new initiatives, and responsible for DR and BC planning, within the remit of the Systems Operations Team.
