Role summary

Job summary

Job Summary The Adult Preoperative Assessment Department provides a service for all adult elective surgical patients attending Chelsea and Westminster Hospital West Mid site, as well as patients seen at other hospitals who are to have surgery here.

Patients are referred from all areas of the UK and abroad.

The team comprises specialist Nurses, Consultant Anaesthetists, Health Care Assistants.

To function effectively, the team members require clinical information about patients that is not always readily available in the hospitals patient notes. This information is vital for appropriate assessment of risk and to allow patients to proceed to surgery as safely as possible.

Obtaining this information in a timely manner is the core function of the role.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will be required to promote best practice according to the Trust's Access Policy and will be expected to promote and utilise all relevant Trust Policies related to the fulfilment of the role.
  • Where required, to liaise with GP practices, other hospitals and other departments to obtain medical records and patient information to ensure POA can safely clear the patient for surgery, or ensure they are treated prior to being cleared.
