Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and dynamic nurse to join as a Teenage Cancer Trust Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. The autonomous individual will be employed by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and work across the South East Wales region. The role involves promoting excellence in nursing practice, providing higher level nursing care, and ensuring age-appropriate emotional support for TYA cancer patients. The CNS will also play a key role in developing and coordinating cancer services and providing professional leadership and education.
Essential criteria
- First level nurse registration
- MSc/ working towards
- Evidence of CPD
- Teaching and assessing in clinical practice/Teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
- Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
- Demonstratable experience in haematology, oncology, palliative care and/or TYA cancer
- Significant post registration experience
- Experience of managing own caseload in relevant speciality
- Evidence of excellent communication skills(verbal and written) ability to communicate sensitive information to young people and families
- Demonstrate sound IT skills
- Evidence of managing self-development
- Evidence of ability to work independently
- Demonstrate ability to influence within and outside of service, across multi-inter disciplinary groups
- Involvement in audit and research
- Evidence of presenting work within and outside the organisation
- Specialist Knowledge
- Evidence of specific knowledge and skills in speciality
- IQT Silver
- Evidence of ability to motivate, influence change, support staff and evaluate services

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a experienced, passionate and dynamic nurse to undertake the role of Teenage Cancer Trust Outreach Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for Teenage and Young Adults (TYA) with Cancer. This autonomous individual will be employed by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board, but will work across the South East Wales region - including Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Velindre NHS Trust. Through job planning, the post holder will based across hospitals in the South East Wales area. We are looking for a motivated individual to join a team dedicated to improving the lives of Teenager and Young Adults with cancer.
This post is fixed term for 26 months to October 2028 due to funding.
Main duties of the job
This CNS will work with a wide range multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure that all TYA patients receive age appropriate care and emotional support regardless of where they are treated in South East Wales.
The successful candidate will promote excellence in nursing practice through the delivery of higher level nursing care to young people with cancer. Working within agreed protocols and guidelines the CNS will provide a seamless quality pathway
