Role summary

A Specialist Optometrist is sought to join the Optometry team at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary. The role involves delivering a comprehensive range of optometry services, including patient assessment and management in core and extended role clinics across various ophthalmic sub-specialties. The successful candidate will participate in complex specialist services and manage a varied caseload, combining high clinical standards with good time management.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a comprehensive range of optometry services to the highest standards of quality and care.
  • Undertake responsibility for patient assessment and management in core and extended role clinics across a range or sub-specialties within ophthalmology.
  • Participate in the delivery of complex specialist services that meet the changing needs of the Directorate and other stakeholders.
  • Manage a varied caseload including core optometry clinics (paediatric & adult refraction, low vision and specialist contact lenses).
  • Undertake extended role clinics in one or more subspecialty clinics such as glaucoma, medical retina, uveitis, cornea, emergency and research.

Essential criteria

  • Ability to deliver high quality patient care
  • GOC registration

Desirable criteria

  • Experience working in an NHS hospital setting
  • Experience of extended role clinical work either in community or hospital
  • Experience of Low vision and peadiatric refraction
  • Understanding and awareness of HES optometry role

Job summary

A vacancy has arisen for an optometrist to join the Optometry team at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary. The team consists of 12 Optometrists, 2 Optometry Assistants and an Eye Clinic Liaison Officer. We are a developing team working across many of the ophthalmic sub-specialty areas in addition to core optometry services.

The successful candidate for a band 7 post will need to have significant clinical experience; Hospital Eye experience is likely to be an advantage, but applicants with community experience only will be considered if they have the relevant type of experience and demonstrate the necessary aptitude. Independent prescribing would be advantageous, but is not essential. A band 6 development post may be considered for this position.
