Role summary
This role is for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to work within the PEG service in Gastroenterology. The successful candidate will support patients and families requiring a PEG throughout their care journey. The role involves using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills to alleviate distress and identify needs for onward referral. It is an ideal starting position for developing nursing skills within the PEG team, working Monday-Friday 9-5pm.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support for patients and families requiring a PEG through treatment and throughout the care journey.
- Use advanced communication and psychological assessment skills to assess and alleviate psychological distress for PEG patients and their families.
- Identify the need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriate.
- Work with the PEG specialist nurse supporting patients who have been identified as requiring a PEG or who have a PEG insitu.
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse
- First level degree or equivalent
- Demonstrable Experience within Speciality
- Evidence of continued professional development
- IT Literate
Desirable criteria
- Post-basic qualification in gastrointestinal disease related subject
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Advanced Communication skills training
- Experience in PEG
- Previous CNS Experience

We are looking to recruit a PEG support Nurse to work within the PEG service within Gastroenterology in the Medicine Division.
The team consists of 1 X WTE PEG Specialist Nurse with Gastroenterology Consultant support.
The successful candidate must be a highly motivated and organised individual, who can communicate effectively. You will be expected to work well independently and as part of a team to ensure high quality of patient care.
This role is an ideal starting position for anyone who wants to develop their nursing skills within the PEG team . The role will be based across Monday-Friday 9-5pm.
