Role summary

This role is for a Pharmacy Technician in West Hertfordshire Hospital NHS Trust, based at Watford General Hospital. You will provide technical pharmacy support to Production and Aseptic Services, ensuring efficient, safe, and cost-effective product preparation in line with GMP. Key responsibilities

  • Support the MHRA specials licensed aseptic manufacturing unit by ensuring all production activities meet statutory requirements and MHRA standards.
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of safe systems of work within Technical Services, including drafting SOPs and risk assessments.
  • Participate in quality assurance and compliance activities, including maintaining Pharmaceutical Quality Systems and reporting incidents.
  • Provide training and support for pharmacy staff, including accreditation of technicians and induction of new staff.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of new developments and innovations within the department.
  • Support research and clinical trial activities, applying Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and maintaining trial documentation.

Essential criteria

  • NVQ 3 or BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • Science Manufacturing Technician Level 3 apprenticeship completed.
  • Registered with a relevant professional body.
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification experience, including hospital preparative/aseptic services.
  • Practical knowledge of GMP, QA, Pharmaceutical Quality Systems, and familiarity with chemotherapy regimens; experience with EMIS (Ascribe), BD Cato, or ChemoCare systems desirable.
