Role summary
This role is for a Specialist Speech & Language Therapist within a new 10-bed regional inpatient unit for people with learning disabilities and/or autism with treatable mental health needs. The post holder will undertake speech, language, communication, and eating/drinking/swallowing assessments, implementing evidence-based interventions. They will work as part of a large multi-disciplinary team, helping to shape and develop the Speech & Language Therapy service and support the transition to the new state-of-the-art unit. This is a part-time position based at The Brook on the Langdon Hospital site.
Essential criteria
- Recognized Speech and Language Therapy qualification (includ-ing completion of RCSLT NQP Competency Framework)
- HCPC Registration and License to Practice
- Registered Practicing Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT)
- Evidence of CPD in clinical area
Desirable criteria
- Post Graduate Dysphagia Training
- Knowldege
- Developing specialist knowledge of a range of therapeutic models and evidence base within the areas of Learning Disability and Au-tism
- Proficiency in objective and perceptual data analysis for both as-sessment and therapy
- Knowledge of RCSLT professional and clinical guidelines
- Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support, assessment, formulation and implementation of interventions for behaviour that challenges
- Post-registration developing experience in working with people with a Learning Disability and/or with Autistic peo-ple, with and without a learning disability
- Experience of working in a MDT
- Experience in supervising developing and student SLTs

We are a seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative
Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our team. You will work
alongside a Professional Lead for Speech & Language Therapy, an Advanced Speech
& Language Therapist, and a Speech & Language Therapist Assistant
Practitioner, as well as holding close links with community learning disability
and neurodiversity team colleagues.
You will be a key member of a large multi-disciplinary team, with the
opportunity to help shape and develop the Speech & Language Therapy team to
deliver consistently high quality care and treatment. You will also support the
transition from our existing service to the new development. The new unit will
be state of the art and has been carefully designed and developed with
clinicians and people with lived experience.
