Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Therapy Support Worker to join the Respiratory, Surgery and Critical Care Therapies team at Barnet Hospital. The role involves assisting Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists with rehabilitation sessions, supporting exercise programmes, and promoting independence in daily tasks. The successful candidate will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contributing to excellent patient care and maintaining therapy resources. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential for this position.
Key responsibilities
- Assisting Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists with joint rehabilitation sessions
- Assisting and progressing exercise programmes
- Supporting functional tasks + activities to promote independence with personal care (washing / dressing / cooking / feeding)
- Mobility rehabilitation
- Maintaining therapy resources and equipment
- Communicating effectively within the multidisciplinary team
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate ability to meet all Trust Values
- English language and Maths GCSE or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate ability to problem solve
- Able to work as a team member
- Adaptable and supportive of change
- Ability to instruct and teach practical skills
- Has the ability to use initiative and to work single handed in a supportive environment

- Able to work on different sites
- Has practical computer skills including data entry and use of Microsoft Word
- Can demonstrate a good understanding of the role of a support worker in Therapies and Dietetics
- Awareness of current health issues
- Understanding the need to maintain confidentiality
- Understanding of equal opportunities
- Willingness to undertake professional self-development
- Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Able to document information accurately
- Relevant work or voluntary experience in a position where dealing with the public is a large part of the role
- Previous experience working in a team
Desirable criteria
- Formal qualification in relevant subject e.g. City and Guilds/ NVQ / Basic or Advanced certificate in Exercise Instruction For General Population and / or Older People
- Relevant in-service training / education
- Knowledge of manual handling
- Awareness of local health topics
- Able to organise and prioritise own workload
- General relevant experience of working in a therapy unit or a health care setting

We are looking for an individual who demonstrates an energetic, enthusiastic and flexible approach to their work. The successful applicant will join our experienced therapy team, working alongside occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech & language therapists and dietitians, as well as the wider multidisciplinary team.
