Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Family Support Worker to join a multi-disciplinary team supporting children, young people, and their families living with HIV across the West Midlands. The role involves providing care and support, identifying individual needs, and developing targeted programmes or access to services. It requires working closely with paediatric and adult professionals, health visitors, social care, and other agencies. The successful candidate will be confident, enthusiastic, and sensitive to the needs of families with complex social and health conditions.
Key responsibilities
- Work alongside paediatric and adult professionals to deliver care and support to children, young people and their families living with HIV.
- Identify individual needs and develop a programme of targeted support or access to services.
- Provide support with practical skills and direct work with children.
- Liaise with professionals and work alongside health visitors, children's social care services, education and other agencies.
- Manage accurate electronic record keeping, clinical records, and request relevant tests and clinical letters.
Essential criteria
- NVQ3 Child Care, NNEB or equivalent experience.
- Counselling skills or equivalent experience.
- Experience of working with children/ young people with long term health conditions.
- Good understanding of family centered care.
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of working with children & young people with additional physical, learning, emotional and social needs.
- Ability to prioritise child/families needs both clinically and socially.
- Ability to work alone.
- Knowledge of safe-guarding children and vulnerable adults.
- Knowledge of record keeping.
- Basic knowledge of computer and IT skills.
- Occupational Health Clearance.
- DBS
- Ability to travel to a variety of community settings by specified times.
- Motivated, enthusiastic, team player flexible to the needs of the provision of care required by the family.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills in order to facilitate relationship with children and young people and their family.
- Ability to remain calm and composed.
- Good team worker.
- Prepared to work flexibly to meet service needs.
Desirable criteria
- Essential qualification held for at least 12 months.
- Significant experience as a Family Support Worker in health, social care, short breaks or education setting.
- Evidence of teaching or supervising others.
- Evidence of providing emotional support/ counselling.
- Ability to act in accordance to emergency plans and procedures.
- Previous working with families on a supportive basis, social care agencies/health setting.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced candidate to join our busy multi-disciplinary team; working alongside paediatric and adult professionals to deliver care and support to children, young people and their families living with HIV. Close relationships will be required with the adult service and health advisors ensuring support from pregnancy through to young adulthood.

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in supporting children, young people and their families with complex social needs and a long-term health condition; in particular HIV.
HIV is recognised as a long-term, manageable health condition however the patient living with HIV requires support with physical, emotional and psychosocial needs. This role requires a candidate who is confident, enthusiastic and sensitive to the needs of families.
