Role summary
This role involves providing high-standard care to patients in T&O Outpatients, working under the supervision of a registered practitioner. You will undertake designated clinical procedures, record observations, and support nurses in clinics. The position requires active participation in skill development and adherence to trust policies and values. It is a part-time, permanent role within The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.
Key responsibilities
- Provide a high standard of care to patients as delegated by a registered practitioner.
- Undertake and record designated observations and clinical procedures.
- Support the registered nurse in outpatient clinics and input data into IT systems.
- Ensure equipment is available and ready for use by the nursing team.
- Communicate administrative and organisational problems that impact clinic smooth running.
- Contribute to the maintenance of the care environment and quality initiatives.
Essential criteria
- Maths and English Qualification - GCSE A-C or Functional Skills Level 2
- Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
- QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
- Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
- Prepared to undergo further training
- Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
- An understanding of their role within the team
- Able to undertake a limited range of delegated clinical care duties, e.g temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, wound observations, removal cannula/catheter
- Able to assess patient/client condition through observation/test results; assess comfort of patient/client, instigate emergency procedures
- Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
- Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Manual handing of patients (including toileting, bathing and turning patients), equipment and stores
- Evidence of effective communication skills including o Verbal o Written (legible handwriting) o Non-verbal o Compassion and respect
- Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and / or carers
- An understanding of how to behave / act in a clinical environment
- Positive and enthusiastic approach to work
- Courteous and polite
- Participation in flexible work patterns / shift working required to provide 24hr service to meet the needs of the service.

We are searching for caring individuals who understand the needs of our patients and display compassion and patience at all times.
Successful applicants will be actively encouraged to develop their skills and knowledge to meet both personal and service development needs.
Main duties of the job
A Senior Care Support Worker will work together with the members of the nursing team to provide a high standard of care to patients. He/she will be competent to undertake and record designated observations and clinical procedures, teach aspects of patient education, support the registered nurse in outpatient clinics, input data into the IT system and ensure equipment is available and ready for use by the nursing team.
They will communicate with senior staff/any clinic administrative, organisational problems that impact upon the smooth running of clinics and/or the patient pathway through the Outpatient Service.
The post holder will be required to complete generic and team specific competencies within an agreed time scale, this should be within twelve months of post commencing.
The Senior Care Support Worker will:
