Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly specialist physiotherapist to join a supportive and innovative team at University Hospitals Birmingham. The role involves managing a caseload of patients within the complex breathlessness multidisciplinary service, focusing on advanced assessment and treatment of individuals with complex breathlessness, including breathing pattern disorders. The post holder will work autonomously, provide specialist training, and contribute to service development within respiratory services. Experience in an acute hospital setting with respiratory conditions is essential, and the role requires participation in out-of-hours on-call and 7-day working.
Essential criteria
- \*Diploma / degree in Physiotherapy.
- \*Registered with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC).
- \*A levels or equivalent qualification.
- \*Good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English grade C and above.
- \*Evidence of CPD including recent post graduate training relevant to clinical speciality.
Desirable criteria
- \*Member of specialist interest group.
- \*Attendance at Clinical Educators course.
- \*Relevant experience at Band 6 working with patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
- \*Demonstrates clinical experience enabling the post holder to manage a caseload of patients within this speciality.
- \*Experience of working on a physiotherapy on-call service.
- \*Supervision of student physiotherapists and assistants.
- \*Demonstration of specialist knowledge in physiotherapy and specialist area, across the range of procedures and working practices, with the appropriate theoretical and practical experience.
- \*Attendance at post graduate courses relevant to the specialist area and physiotherapy.
- \*CPD portfolio showing evidence of attendance at mandatory training and evidence of in-service training.
- \*Evidence of audit / R&D activity on a regular basis.

- \*Able to contribute to 7-day weekend working, extended hours and out of hours overnight on call respiratory physiotherapy service (including NIV).
- \*Experience of lecturing to mixed audiences e.g. Registrars as part of their teaching programme.

Job summary
An exciting new opportunity has arisen at University Hospitals of Birmingham for a highly specialist physiotherapist to join our supportive and innovative team. The postholder will be responsible for managing their own caseload of patients within our complex breathlessness multidisciplinary service, working alongside our two existing highly experienced band 7 physiotherapists.
It is an opportunity to work within a supportive and specialist MDT in a service that is expanding and developing in order to address a previously unmet need within the BSOL area. The post involves advanced assessment and treatment of patients with complex breathlessness including those with suspected or confirmed breathing pattern disorder. Patients referred to this service often have a highly complex presentation and may have associated factors such as inducible laryngeal obstruction, excessive dynamic airway collapse or asthma. Physiotherapy is an integral part of this service and alongside the MDT you will ensure that patients receive a comprehensive and holistic assessment and treatment plan.
You will need experience working as a qualified band 6 or band 7 physiotherapist in an acute hospital setting, with experience of managing multiple respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchiectasis, breathing pattern disorder.
