Role summary

This role is for a self-motivated, IT-literate craftsperson with excellent engineering knowledge to join the estates team. The post holder will be responsible for fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment. Duties include planned preventative maintenance, general repairs, Energy Centre checks, and responding to high priority emergencies to ensure service continuity in a busy hospital environment. The role involves installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing specialist estates equipment and infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, service and repair the full range of estates specialist equipment, plant and infrastructure.
  • Provide technical advice to other estates maintenance staff and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures.
  • Act in the role of Competent Person, as defined by Health Technical Memorandum, for the Electrical Distribution (LV) system.
  • Undertake condition surveys and evaluate inspection reports.
  • Ensure the risk of infection is minimised by adhering to Trust policies and attending statutory education programmes.

Essential criteria

  • oBTEC, ONC and HNC engineering. NVQ 3 in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification
  • oAdequate knowledge of and within the proceeding three years training for, first aid treatment for electric shock.
  • oSterilizer (Porous Load) maintenance and testing to quarterly EN285
  • oBOAS Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme
  • oWasher / Disinfector quarterly EN15883
  • oEndoscopy EN15883
  • Completion of a structured training program in engineering for a minimum period of 4 years.
  • 2 years site experience.
  • Knowledge of low pressure hot water systems, steam raising plant, pneumatic systems and hydraulics

Desirable criteria

  • Medical gas pipelines Water supply regs.
  • Experience in working in an Acute Hospital environment.
