Role summary
This role involves providing a specialist gastroenterology dietetics service to patients across various settings, including wards, endoscopy units, and outpatient clinics. Key responsibilities
- Manage a complex caseload of gastroenterology inpatients and outpatients on the endoscopy unit, coordinating service improvement projects.
- Contribute to the management of complex caseloads for patients requiring parenteral nutrition and those with diagnosed eating disorders.
- Provide dietetics cover for patients requiring parenteral nutrition and for patients with a diagnosed eating disorder.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of patients, including those with complex presentations, and set nutritional goals.
- Plan, deliver, evaluate, and develop training and education sessions for patients and multidisciplinary staff groups.
- Supervise and assess students during their placements, acting as a practice educator and weekly supervisor.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Nutrition & Dietetics
- HCPC registration
- Experience of complex assessment including enteral feeding management
- Experience in management of adult patients with various dietary and nutritional needs
- Experience of teaching/presenting to groups of patients and healthcare professionals
- Experience of managing gastroenterology patients and of dietetics across a wide range of areas
- Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for the service
- Knowledge of relevant policies and guidelines in relation to the management of gastroenterology patients
- Excellent prioritization skills and an ability to delegate appropriately
- Excellent verbal and non verbal communication and an ability to adapt styles to meet the requirements of the audience
- Able to provide specialist nutrition/dietary information in a variety of formats to suit audience
- Excellent time management and organisation skills in order to manage own workload effectively and meet deadlines
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate relevant training
- Experience of managing patients requiring parenteral nutrition
- Experience of low FODMAP diet provision
- Experience of training and supervising students
- Experience of dietetic management of patients with a diagnosed eating disorder
- NHS based experience
- Knowledge of service improvement techniques

Job summary
To provide a specialist gastroenterology dietetics service to patients on the gastroenterology ward, on the endoscopy unit and in weekly outpatient clinic. This role includes presenting specialist talks to patients (The Low FODMAP diet and Coeliac disease). You will be trained to cover parental nutrition to be able to provide cover, if required.
