Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven registered nurse to join the Specialist Nutrition Support Nurse team at The Christie NHS FT. The role involves providing high-quality patient-centred care for patients requiring artificial nutrition, working closely with the dietetic team and wider MDT. You will participate in the nurse management of patients receiving enteral feeding, support patients through the HPN referral process, and provide counselling, tube training, and aftercare. The position also includes developing and delivering education and training programmes for healthcare professionals.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Diploma or degree in nursing studies
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship module
- Experience in an acute setting NHS experience
- Experience in oncology
- Evidence of clinical audit
- Evidence of educational study in nutrition
- Evidence of interest in nutrition
- Evidence in recent management and care of patients with feeding tubes
- Evidence of setting standards and producing action plans
- Experience in endoscopic / radiological procedures
- Experience in gastroenterology
- Able to deliver a high standard of evidence based individual patient care
- To provide all nursing care in line with Trust policies and protocols
- Good interpersonal skills and initiative.
- Able to work as part of a team Independently insert nasogastric tube
- Ability to train patients/carers for enteral tube care
- Assess gastrostomy tubes
- Provide aftercare for feeding tubes
- Able to teach formally and informally
- Able to present information written and verbal
- Computer literate
- Replace gastrostomy tubes
- Up to date knowledge of nursing issues in relation to nutritional support, enteral feeding and parenteral feeding
- Understanding of national nutrition standards and guidelines (CQC, NPSA, PLACE, NICE)
- Knowledge of endoscopic and radiologic procedures for nutritional support
- Evidence of own personal continuing professional development (CPD)

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven registered nurse to join our Specialist Nutrition Support Nurse team (band 6, 26.3 hrs/week), as part of the Christie nutrition and dietetic team in our world class cancer centre, providing an opportunity to develop your practice within this specialist area of nursing.
If you are you passionate and have and interest or experience of working within in nutrition and/or oncology, and experience of varied feeding tubes, such as gastrostomies, nasogastric tubes, nasojejunal tubes and want to develop your skills further, then this is the post for you. The experienced and well-established team will support with competency and confidence development for this specialist role.
As a member of the Specialist Nutrition Support Nurse team, you will work closely with the dietetic team, and, as well as collaborate with the wider MDT and stake holders, to deliver high quality patient centred care for patients requiring artificial nutrition.

As a band 6 Specialist Nutrition Support Nurse you will work within the team to provide a specialist nutrition support nurse service for patients aimed at continually improving standards of care and facilitating a multidisciplinary team approach.
