Role summary
This is an exciting leadership role for an experienced Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) or Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to provide strong clinical leadership and professional oversight within learning disability services. The post holder will lead and support the multidisciplinary team in delivering high-quality clinical practice, promote positive health and wellbeing outcomes, and ensure care is delivered in accordance with standards. A central focus will be improving physical health outcomes, reducing health inequalities, and ensuring access to high-quality healthcare for people with learning disabilities. This role involves inspiring others, influencing change, and shaping the future of community learning disability nursing.
Essential criteria
- Registered RNLD/RNM professional with current registration with the appropriate professional body
- Degree level qualification in a relevant health profession.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to learning disabilities and leadership.
- Mentorship, practice supervision or assessor qualification, or willingness to achieve.
Desirable criteria
- Quality Improvement, Coaching or Leadership qualification.
- Training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), trauma-informed practice or related specialist areas.
- Registered Non-Medical Prescriber (V300 independent/supplementary prescriber qualification
- Experience of managing a complex caseload
- Significant post-registration experience working with people with learning disabilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of learning disability services and best practice.
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, consent, deprivation of liberty safeguards and best interest decision-making.
- Knowledge of safeguarding adults procedures and responsibilities.
- Understanding of health inequalities affecting people with learning disabilities and approaches to address these.
- Knowledge of current NHS priorities, national guidance and relevant legislation relating to learning disability services.
- Understanding of multidisciplinary team roles and partnership working.
- Experience of managing and supporting complex clinical cases involving multiple health, behavioural, psychological and social needs.
- Experience of risk assessment, care planning, safeguarding and clinical decision-making in complex situations.
- Experience of working in partnership with families, carers and external agencies.
