Role summary
This is a permanent opportunity for a qualified Emergency Nurse or Paramedic Care Practitioner to join a supportive team at Cheshunt Minor Injuries Unit. The role involves providing autonomous clinical practices to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat, and refer patients within approved pathways. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering healthcare in the Minor Injuries Service and interpreting x-ray images. The unit is committed to high-quality care and fostering an open, friendly, and supportive environment for staff.
Key responsibilities
- Provide advanced levels of autonomous clinical practices to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients by acting within the parameters of approved pathways and Trust guidelines.
- Be responsible and accountable for the delivery of health care to patients within the Minor Injuries Service.
- Work towards fulfilling the expectations, core capabilities and competencies of an advanced nurse/ care practitioner through workplace-based assessments and clinical supervision.
- Interpret x-ray images and follow agreed treatment pathways, completing three yearly IRMER (Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations).
- Demonstrate nursing expertise and clinical knowledge, in accordance with the NMC and act as a resource for the Trust.
- Demonstrate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.
Essential criteria
- oRegistered Nurse (NMC)/ Registered Paramedic (HCPC)
- oAutonomous Nurse/Care Practitioner Training. A33 , accredited university Minor Injuries Course or equivalent
- oIndependent non-medical prescriber
- oMentorship, teaching and assessing course or equivalent
- oTraining in safeguarding children and adults
- oUp to date with IRMER training
- oTraining in intermediate life support
- oInclusion and diversity training to include Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and the Mental Capacity Act (MCA
- oPost registration experience in A&E, UTC, MIU or equivalent
- oIs aware off and follows the professional codes; NMC / HCPC
- oGood knowledge of anatomy and physiology
- oGood knowledge of wound management and wound healing
- oKnowledge and experience in following clinical pathways and with the NICE guidelines.
- oHave knowledge and experience in medicines management
- oAbility to organize the swift flow of patients through the unit safely and effectively
- oIdentifies and manages potential risks and incidents
- oReports any faults and maintenance issues promptly to the appropriate persons
- oAbility to identify staff development needs and conduct peer reviews
- oDemonstrates expert clinical decision-making skills in the assessment, examination and treatment or referral of patients attending the unit.
- oHas a good knowledge and is able to demonstrate good record management skills
- oHas the ability to work autonomously to meet individual care needs of patients from the age of 1 year old
- oProvide evidence of continuous personal and professional development
- oHave knowledge of current professional matters in relation to nursing and the NHS
- oHas a high standard of written and computer skills e.g. word, excel and email
- oAbility to communicate effectively with patients from varied social and cultural backgrounds.
- oThe ability to work well within a small team.
- oHave good listening and verbal skills and able to communicate well with children
- oAbility to recognize and report any safeguarding concerns that may be suspected in both children and adults
- oHas a caring and professional approach to patients, relatives and colleagues
- oIs flexible, reliable and conforms to the uniform policy
- oWillingness to uphold the Trust's and providers core values
- oEligible to live and work in the UK.
Desirable criteria
- oEvidence in further x-ray interpretation training e.g. Red Dot study
- oHas experience in managing complaints
- oAbility to manage the staff Rota and roster management
- oAble to monitor and training needs of peers and appraisal management
- oHas Adastra experience or similar systems
- oHas experience with smartcard usage
