Role summary
This role supports colleagues in Adult Mental Health Services to assess and manage risks posed by service users to others. It involves facilitating Enhanced Risk Assessment (ERA) meetings, Risk Management Plan meetings, and consultations. The post holder will also contribute to training staff on risk assessment and management, and formulate risk and develop management plans. The focus is on indirect support to colleagues rather than direct service user contact.
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
- Experience in work with risk or in forensic settings, or a clear desire to do so
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- MSc in Clinical Forensic or Forensic Psychology or equivalent experience
- Formal training in the use of the HCR-20 risk assessment or other structured risk assessments or equivalent experience
- EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
- High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive
- Graduate level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Experience of using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows.
- High standard of report writing.
- Ability to communicate sensitive information to service users, carers and colleagues
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with personality disorder, mental illness or other disabilities.
- Experience of paid work as an assistant psychologist.
- Experience of working in forensic and adult mental health services
- Experience in completing forensic risk assessments.
- Experience of providing consultation and facilitating others in completing risk assessments.
- Experience of facilitating workshops and training sessions
- Experience of working with people with a personality disorder, mental illness, and offending behaviours
- Up to date knowledge of psychological research and national guidance relevant to the client group

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity to try out working with the ERA-ROCS (Enhanced Risk Assessment - Risk to Others Service) as part of cover for one of our very good facilitators/assistant psychologists. We will welcome secondment applications (please get approval from your current line manager in advance) or applicants looking for a Fixed Term Contract.
The purpose of this post is to support colleagues working within Adult Mental Health Services to develop their understanding and skills in identifying, assessing, and managing risk to others posed by some service users, who may not reach the threshold for Forensic Services, so that our colleagues can ensure that our service users can better engage with their treatment, remain in services, and improve their overall risk against others. This will involve supporting staff by facilitating Enhanced Risk Assessment (ERAs) meetings, Risk Management Plan meetings, and Consultations; attending AMH team meetings to discuss the ERA process and support decision-making regarding risk; contributing to training for AMH staff about assessing and working with risk; and as part of this process formulating risk and developing management plans with staff.We do not work directly with servi
