Role summary
This role is for a Sonographer to join a highly skilled and supportive team at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will work across various ultrasound departments, managing daily operations and prioritising patients. The position involves scanning, reporting, and potentially mentoring students, with opportunities for self-development and CPD. Both newly qualified and experienced sonographers are encouraged to apply.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the daily operation of the ultrasound area, using good time management and clinical judgement.
- Prioritise patients and deal with situations as they arise to deliver an efficient high quality patient service.
- Scan and report in your ultrasound speciality.
- Mentor and supervise students, trainees and newly qualified sonographers.
Essential criteria
- Experience working in an imaging department
- Evidence of experience in Quality and Safety and Clinical Audit
- PGDip/ PG Cert in medical ultrasound or DMU
- State Registration with HCPC /or equivalent in midwifery/ or if neither of these are applicable, registration with The register of Clinical Technologists on qualification
- Technical knowledge for a range of ultrasound systems including image manipulation and trouble shooting.
- Experience with operating and managing I.T. systems including patient management, reporting and picture archiving systems.
- Understanding of Information Governance, Quality and Safety, and Confidentiality
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in an ultrasound department as a qualified sonographer
- Evidence of CPD

Summary of Experience/Skills/Qualifications required:
- PGDip in medical ultrasound, DMU, or PGCert or equivalent CASE accredited qualification, in your area of specialty
- Competent and experienced in scanning and reporting in your ultrasound specialty
- HCPC / NMC/ RCT Registration required or equivalent

Main duties of the job
The ultrasound department at BTHFT is split across the two main sites of Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's hospital. On the BRI site we have the maternity ultrasound department in the women's health unit, a two room vascular ultrasound department in medical physics and the six room main ultrasound department in radiology
