Role summary
This role involves assessing and managing acute anterior uveitis cases, including clinical examination, diagnosis, and treatment with topical steroids. A key responsibility is developing a pathway for patients requiring immunosuppression, providing education, counselling, and monitoring. The specialist will also maintain patient records and act as a point of contact, liaising with various healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care. Participation in clinical governance, audit, and research is also expected.
Key responsibilities
- Assessment and management of cases of acute anterior uveitis including clinical examination, diagnosis, management with topical steroid drops, documentation of investigation results, and escalation of complex patients.
- Develop a pathway for patients requiring immunosuppression for inflammatory eye disease, including education, counselling, pre-treatment screening, and initial post-treatment blood monitoring.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date record of all patients within the uveitis service who are on long-term immunosuppression.
- Act as a point of contact for patient queries and provide joined up care by liaising with rheumatology specialist nurses, consultants, GPs, and uveitis consultants.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and research.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC Register
- Significant post-registration experience including some in a position relevant to the speciality
- Able to perform clinical skills relevant to the speciality
- Ability to provide high quality patient centred care
