Role summary

This role is for an experienced Mechanical Engineering Services Manager to lead the Trust's mechanical engineering services. Key responsibilities

  • Manage the safe, compliant, and effective operation of mechanical engineering services including HVAC, water hygiene, and medical gases.
  • Act as Authorised Person for key disciplines, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and NHS standards.
  • Lead maintenance programmes, contractor management, and minor works projects, ensuring efficiency and value for money.
  • Provide specialist technical advice, support capital projects, and develop maintenance strategies.
  • Manage and develop in-house maintenance teams, supporting training and competency development.
  • Participate in on-call and emergency response arrangements, ensuring continuity of critical engineering services.

Essential criteria

  • HNC/HND in relevant field of Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Management with focus on Mechanical services or equivalent experience
  • Skills andExchanges maintenance, technical project-related information with specialists, non-specialists, including senior managers, directors; negotiates with contractors, suppliers / Communicates multi-stranded project, design, financial, contractual information to Board, senior managers, contractors, co-operation required Abilities
  • Mechanical services and systems operational estates management experience
  • Working knowledge of maintenance support systems e.g. CAFM, BMS

Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to develop their management career within a high-performing Estates team. As Mechanical Engineering Services Manager, you will act as the Trust's technical lead for mechanical engineering services, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective operation of critical infrastructure across hospital and community sites.

You will lead the maintenance and compliance of key systems including HVAC, water hygiene, pressure systems, refrigeration and medical gases, while working towards and maintaining Authorised Person responsibilities. The role combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, including managing contractors, supporting and developing in-house maintenance staff, overseeing service contracts, and delivering minor works projects.
