Role summary
This is an exciting full-time opportunity for a skilled and motivated Band 5 Medical Engineer at Alder Hey Children's NHS FT. The role involves commissioning, repairing, maintaining, and decommissioning a wide range of complex medical equipment, including life support and patient monitoring devices. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, often in critical care areas, and be responsible for fault rectification and ensuring equipment safety. The position requires an HNC/D level education or equivalent with several years of medical device maintenance experience.
Key responsibilities
- Commission, repair, maintain, overhaul, re-calibrate and decommission a wide range of complex medical equipment.
- Work on equipment in areas including Intensive care, HDU & theatres, some of which may be 'patient connected'.
- Attend training courses to update technical knowledge of specialist equipment and its paediatric clinical use.
- Work in compliance with Department of Health guidelines, statutory regulatory bodies, and departmental procedures.
- Organise and prioritise daily work schedules, working unsupervised to professional standards.
- Supervise the work activities of junior staff and take an active role in their training and development.
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge of Medical Device Directive and regulations.
- Up to date knowledge of national CQC Essential standards and MHRA publications.
- Possess a working knowledge of ISO9002 or ISO9001-2000.
- To have an excellent working knowledge of medical devices electrical safety testing
- Experience of working on a broad range of Medical devices repairing to component level and specifically with experience of anaesthetic machines ventilators and specialist complex medical devices.
- To be able to interpret schematic diagrams with the purpose of fault finding and component identification.
- A degree or equivalent higher-level qualification plus experience in a relevant subject area.
- Hold a current driving license and have the use of a vehicle, or the ability to transport self and medical equipment for business purposes 24/7.
- Specialist medical device maintenance training delivered by manufacturer training courses.
- High level technical skills working on a broad range of Medical devices repairing to component level and specifically with experience of anaesthetic machines and various ventilators.
- Excellent IT/Software skills particular to problem solving and data storage relating to medical devices and patient physiological data.
- Demonstrate a flexible approach and ability to support other members of staff including passing on technical knowledge.
- Personal Development and Motivation in the field of Medical Engineering to include a portfolio of CPD.
- To be able to operate under pressure situations and demonstrate good decision making skills whilst also being able to perform as part of a team.
- To work without supervision on a daily basis.
- Experience of working with senior clinical staff and other allied healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrate a high level of manual dexterity and manual handling skills
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively to multi-disciplinary teams.
- To be able to provide and receive complex information where tact and persuasive skills are required.
- To have good team working skills.
- To have proficient verbal and written communications skills.
- To be able to communicate with healthcare professional effectively using medical terminology.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Alder Hey Children's NHS FT for a skilled, experienced and motivated Band 5 Medical Engineer.
The role is a full-time position within the Medical Engineering department. The department consists of electronic and mechanical engineers, equipment library staff and an administration team.
You will be educated to at least HNC/D level or equivalent with several years' medical device or other complex electronic/ electrical equipment
maintenance experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a requirement for on-sitepractical test at interview which you mustbe able to attend to be considered for the post.
