Role summary
This role involves providing specialist mental health assessments and time-limited liaison follow-up support for acute hospital inpatients with complex mental health needs, self-harm, or mental health crises. Essential criteria
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current registration with the NMC
- Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to mental health and urgent care practice
- Experience of undertaking independent comprehensive mental health and risk assessments.
- Experience of working within acute, urgent care, crisis, liaison, community, or inpatient mental health settings
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation, and relevant NICE guidance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate sensitive and complex information.

- Awareness of physical healthcare needs in patients with severe mental illness.
- Understanding of pathways relating to crisis care, high intensity service users , and complex mental health presentations.

Job summary
- The aim of the service is to support and assess those attending the acute hospitals who are experiencing a range of mental health problems, have self-harmed or are actively suicidal or are in a mental health crisis
- The post holder will provide specialist mental health assessments and deliver time-limited liaison follow-up support for acute hospital inpatients presenting with complex and enduring mental health needs. The role also includes providing specialist consultation, advice, and guidance to multidisciplinary colleagues on clinical issues in mental health care.
