Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced NHS medical secretary to join the Paediatric administration team at Sandwell Hospital. The role involves actively managing patient pathways, coordinating patient care from referral to discharge, and providing secretarial and administrative support to consultants and clinical teams. The position is part-time, 24 hours per week, offering flexible working with options for working from home.
Key responsibilities
- Actively manage administrative processes for patient pathways and contribute to clinical team effectiveness.
- Coordinate, navigate, and track patient caseloads through their care pathway for Paediatrics.
- Provide secretarial and administrative support to Consultants and clinical teams.
- Liaise with patients, carers, GPs, and other service users.
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience within the NHS.
- Knowledge of waiting list / patient management systems.
- Knowledge of PAS systems and other relevant databases.
- Amspar or RSA Typing level 2
- Medical Terminology
- GCSE English and Maths grade C and above
Desirable criteria
- Experince of managing 18week pathway
- Cancer Services knowledge and/or experience
- RSA Typing Level 2
- AMSPAR

We have an exciting Medical Secretary positions available, based at Sandwell Hospital working as part of the Paediatric administration team
This Position is for 24 hours per week
We are a fun, friendly team of secretaries, and looking for someone to join us who is also a team player. This position will be based at Sandwell Hospital. We offer flexible working with the option for some working from home days each week.
The key minimum requirements for this position are the AMSPAR qualification, or a minimum of 2 years previous medical secretary experience.
Candidates should also have experience of managing 18 week pathways and waiting list management, plus knowledge and evidence of patient information systems and other relevant IT systems. Personal organisation, great communication skills and the ability to priorities workloads to juggle the ever changing priorities of the NHS are also essential, as is the experience of working in a fast paced environment.
