Role summary
This role is for a passionate, HCPC state-registered Clinical Scientist to join the Clinical Genomics laboratory at The Royal Marsden. You will contribute to a timely and efficient Molecular Diagnostics service, performing analysis using complex genetics software and reporting specialized molecular investigations. The position involves service development, validation, and supervision of junior staff, focusing on cancer diagnostics and translational research. You will collaborate with clinicians and ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation standards.
Essential criteria

- Experience of clinical report writing
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- Experience in working with complex genetics software
- Competence in use of Microsoft software or equivalent
- Educational qualification in mathematics
- Ability to perform complex scientific calculations and data analysis and interpretation
- Good judgement, analytical, perceptive, eye for detail
- Able to take specific responsibilities in an area of defined specialist knowledge
- Able to deal with basic instrumentation trouble shooting

- Proven ability to organise daily work plans and schedules
- Full understanding of EQA & IQA and their implications
- Ability to take corrective and preventive actions for IQA non-compliances
- Knowledge and understanding of ISO15189 standard
- HCPC registration (Essential for Clinical Scientist appointments)
- Evidence of technological development e.g. NGS for diagnostic and/or clinical trial use
- Ability to perform simple audits
- General understanding of all aspects of quality management

- Understanding of relationship between laboratory investigations and clinical practice
- Awareness of clinical significance of laboratory findings and implications for patients
- Ability to extrapolate from basic information to consider additional investigations to perform
