Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Band 6 Senior Respiratory Physiologist to join a dedicated team at University Hospitals Dorset, working across both Poole and Bournemouth sites. The role involves performing routine and complex diagnostic testing, interpreting results, and supporting junior colleagues. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated, and have a genuine interest in working with adult patients with respiratory conditions. Cross-site working is required.
Key responsibilities
- Perform a range of routine, complex diagnostic testing including appropriate interpretation when required.
- Deputise in the absence of the Lead Respiratory Physiologists.
- Provide support and oversee work performed by more junior colleagues.
- Conduct quality assurance of work performed by more junior staff members.
- Triage appropriateness of Respiratory and Sleep referrals.
- Conduct and report Sleep diagnostics with involvement in weekly Sleep MDT.
- Actively contribute to interdepartmental teaching/training including mentoring/assessing students and junior staff.
- Be responsible for maintaining departmental stock levels and appropriate ordering.
Essential criteria
- Ability to work autonomously / independently
- Delivers and assesses training and education to junior staff
- BSc Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or equivalent
- Relevant Professional Registration
- IT literate
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Organisational skills
- Ability to follow established guidelines without supervision
- Evidence of post qualification continuing professional development
- Excellent Communication skills
- Accountability - takes responsibility for own actions
- Flexibility and enthusiasm
- Ability to deal with sensitive information in a professional manner
- Ability to prioritise own workload in relation to the priorities of the department

- Experience of performing/interpreting Complex Respiratory diagnostics
