Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Coagulation section within Haematology, Blood Sciences at University Hospitals Dorset. The role involves performing and interpreting a wide range of specialised coagulation investigations using advanced analytical equipment. You will contribute to the diagnosis and management of patients with bleeding and thrombotic disorders, authorise results, and ensure a high-quality diagnostic service. The position is based primarily at the Dorset Pathology Hub at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, with occasional support at Poole Hospital.
Essential criteria
- Completed Accredited BSc in Biomedical Science
- Registration with HCPC.
- IBMS specialist portfolio or equivalent post graduate knowledge e.g. competency based evidence of specialist techniques
Desirable criteria
- MSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent area of specialty
- Demonstrable experience of working in Haematology, Coagulation
- Experience of working in a UKAS ISO 15189 and MHRA approved laboratory
- Performed a range of haemostasis tests in special coagulation
- Technical Skills Competencies
- Good interpretive skills at bench level
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Knowledge of common IT software
- Handling biological specimens
- Familiarity with database and spread sheet software.
- Familiarity with Quality Management Software
- Familiarity with Winpath software
- Willing and able to learn new skills.
- Currently participating in CPD
- A good understanding of Coagulation and Clinical Haemostasis
- Ability to train junior staff to work in accordance to SOPs
- Other requirements specific to the role
- Desire and ability to relocate to the area.
- Able to work the occasional shift in the Haematology Laboratory
- Personal Attributes
- Ability to prioritise.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately to provide an urgent patient centred service
