Role summary
This role involves providing specialist speech and language therapy services to children and young people with complex communication needs, including those with ASD, SEMH, and LD. The therapist will assess and intervene, manage a complex caseload independently, and deliver care according to professional guidelines. They will also participate in training programmes for school staff, parents, and carers, working as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide an assessment and therapy service for children with speech and language needs and complex communication needs.
- Manage a complex communication caseload independently, making differential diagnoses.
- Deliver care in line with RCSLT/HCPC professional guidelines and standards.
- Plan and evaluate evidence-based therapy interventions, monitoring and reviewing progress.
- Maintain professional competence through personal development and training, ensuring HCPC registration.
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualifications or Equivalent
- Registration with HCPC-Licence to Practice
- Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapist
- Evidence of successful completion of a range of generic and specialist short courses at post-graduate level
- Clinical experience of assessment and intervention of complex speech, language communication needs in school aged settings, including special schools/specialist provisions
- Experience providing training and coaching for education staff
- Well-developed concentration skills and ability to multi-task, and work with frequent interruptions of complex nature
- Team player who is keen to be part of service innovation and development
- Fluent spoken and written skills in English.
- Awareness of own need for Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

To provide a specialist clinical SLT service to children and young people (CYP)with speech, language, and communication needs which may include CYP with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Learning Disabilities (LD).
To be an integral member of the multidisciplinary team providing an integrated care pathway.
