Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Medical Support Secretary to join the Families & Diagnostics Division at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. The role involves providing secretarial support, including typing clinical correspondence, logging and chasing diagnostic requests, and general administrative duties. The successful candidate will cover for colleagues and ensure the department meets its targets. Excellent typing, organisational skills, and the ability to work to deadlines are essential.
Key responsibilities
- Supporting the senior secretary in the daily typing of clinical correspondence.
- Logging and chasing of diagnostic requests.
- Performing general secretarial duties.
- Providing cover for colleagues during periods of annual leave and sickness.
- Ensuring the department continues to meet its targets.
Essential criteria
- GCSE English & Maths Grade C or equivalent
- RSA 11 Typing or equivalent
- ICT qualification
- Evidence of experience working in a busy office undertaking general office duties
- Evidence of dealing with conflicting demands in an a busy department
- Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills (verbal/written)
- Evidence of good grammar and spelling
- Evidence of accurate data entry skills
- Evidence of excellent IT skills and proficiency in MS Office applications
- Evidence of effective time management and prioritisation skills in order to meet departmental turnaround times
- Evidence of willingness and ability to learn new skills
- Commitment to and understanding of confidentiality
- Awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity
- Able to work flexible hours according to the needs of the service
- Team player with an ability to adapt to change in duties based on workload and staff availability/experience
- Evidence of an ability to show empathy and compassion
Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR Medical Secretary Diploma or equivalent experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Customer Care/Business Administration
- Experience of working in an NHS Histopathology Deparment
- Experience of working as a medical secretary in a health care setting
- Experience of using a quality management system e.g. QPulse
- Experience of audio typing e.g. using G2 Speech Report
- Ability to use LE2.2
- Ability to use EPR
- Evidence of understanding medical terminology
- Theoretical Knowledge of Histopathology, Andrology and Non-Gynae Cytology Services
- Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development
- Ability to base decisions on improved patient care
