Role summary

Key responsibilities
- Coordinate activity within the trust, liaising with healthcare professionals to manage patients through the orthopaedic emergency pathway.
- Improve the scheduling of surgery, reduce cancelled operations, and reduce pre-operative fasting.
- Ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources.
- Establish effective working relationships with other care professionals whose role impinges on the service.
- Provide specialist advice and education for patients and relatives/carers.
- Attend MDT meetings for relevant cases (e.g., weekly foot and ankle, hip and knee MDT and monthly upper limb MDT).
Essential criteria
- Proven post-registration experience within orthopaedics/trauma
- Proven experience of working at Band 6 level
- Expert in clinical skills
- Time management skills
- Able to demonstrate evidence based practice
- Registered with The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Nursing Degree or equivalent
- Degree level/undertaking a degree/evidence of degree work
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Good understanding of Scope of Professional Practice
- Organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to work alongside staff to teach and mentor
Desirable criteria
- Management course
- IT skills
- Competent in the application of orthopaedic device (e.i. skin traction, POP, braces)
