Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate activity within the trust, liaising with healthcare professionals to manage patients through the orthopaedic emergency pathway.

  • Ensure effective communication internally and externally regarding patient care and resources.
  • Establish effective working relationships with other care professionals whose role impinges on the service.
  • Provide specialist advice and education for patients and relatives/carers.
  • Attend MDT meetings for relevant cases (e.g., weekly foot and ankle, hip and knee MDT and monthly upper limb MDT).

Essential criteria

  • Proven post-registration experience within orthopaedics/trauma
  • Proven experience of working at Band 6 level
  • Expert in clinical skills
  • Time management skills
  • Able to demonstrate evidence based practice
  • Registered with The Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Nursing Degree or equivalent
  • Degree level/undertaking a degree/evidence of degree work
  • Knowledge of clinical governance
  • Good understanding of Scope of Professional Practice
  • Organisational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to work alongside staff to teach and mentor

Desirable criteria

  • Management course
  • IT skills
  • Competent in the application of orthopaedic device (e.i. skin traction, POP, braces)
