Role summary
This role is for a motivated and dynamic pharmacist to join the award-winning Pharmacy Department at Barts Health. You will participate in a rotational Band 7 pharmacist programme across four hospital sites, focusing on medicines optimisation and patient care. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams, delivering quality care at ward level, and contributing to the department's research agenda. You will also have dispensary-based responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver quality care to patients at ward level through efficient medicines optimization.
- Assess patient's own drugs and perform medicine reconciliation.
- Counsel patients about their medicines and coordinate discharge medication supply.
- Work with the ward-based team to continually develop the service and maintain high standards.
- Contribute to the research agenda of the Pharmacy department.
- Undertake dispensary-based responsibilities.
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in an acute hospital based clinical post.
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.
- Experience of undertaking research, quality improvement or audit projects.
- To have been involved in bringing about change to a service/department
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to complete documentation accurately with attention to detail.
- Able to accurately follow written procedures under pressure.
- Demonstrate numeracy skills and ability to perform accurate, complex calculations.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise self and others.
- Ability to manage times effectively and work to deadlines.
- Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure.
- IT literate; able to use Microsoft Office with intermediate IT skills including accurate data entry and use of specialist computer programs.
- Effective problem solving skills.
- Able to communicate complex information effectively to all health and care professionals, colleagues, patients, and their loved ones.
- Demonstrates ability to deliver staff training.
- Demonstrates sound clinical knowledge.
- Knowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent.
- Understanding of clinical governance and clinical risk management.
- Awareness of current national standards, guidelines, and service delivery issues.
- Understanding of GPhC revalidation requirements.
- Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level.
- Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice e.g., controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work.
- Understanding of stock control systems.
- Understanding of the pharmaceutical care needs.
- Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements.
- Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives.
- MPharm or equivalent.
- Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC.
- Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/Pharmacy Practice or equivalent.
- DBS - Enhanced check with a check of the barred lists required as patient facing and may interact with adults / children
Desirable criteria
- Experience delivering care in acute medicine and surgery specialties in a ward setting
- Experience investigating and managing medication-related incidents
- Independent prescribing qualification.
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Job summary
Do you want to join an award-winning department that puts clinical pharmacists at the forefront of medicines optimisation and patient care?The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health covers a population of 2.5 million. We provide medicines management and medicines optimisation services from our four hospital sites across the City of London and East London.
We are looking for motivated and dynamic pharmacists to join the department at Barts Health to participate in the rotational band 7 pharmacist programme. The programme includes 9-month rotations across the four different sites of Royal London hospital, St Bartholomew's hospital, Whipps Cross hospital and Newham hospital.
You will work closely with medical and nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team on a wide range of medicines optimisation matters, and to ensure standardisation of medicine policies and procedures wherever appropriate.
You will also be expected to contribute to the research agenda working with staff across the Pharmacy department and student placements.
