Role summary
This role involves leading generic health advising within sexual health services, providing specialised advice and support for the investigation, treatment, and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. The adviser will offer information, education, and counselling, as well as conduct partner notification for patients diagnosed with STIs. The aim is to deliver high standards of care, advice, and clinical practice, collaborating with primary and secondary care and other agencies. The role is integral to an integrated team, overseeing positive results and supporting patients with their diagnosis and partner notification in a confidential setting.
Essential criteria
- 1 st Level Registered Nurse with degree or relevant degree level study, e.g. psychology, social sciences, relevant teaching/mentoring qualification
- At least three years practice of which two years is within sexual health speciality
- Knowledge, skills and competency gained through experience working at Band 6 level in relevant area
- Health Advisors Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation qualification or willingness to undertake
- JOB SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE
- Three years post registration experience in a clinical setting
- Experience of working with vulnerable groups, e.g. sexual assault, addiction, chem sex
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in sexual health
- INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY/RESOURCES
- Information technology skills
- PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES
- Ability to communicate complex, sensitive information to patients and others
- Demonstrates listening skills and empathy
- Time management
- Flexible approach
- BUSINESS TRAVEL
- Subject to the provisions of the Equality Act, able to travel using own vehicle on Trust business

Job summary
To lead on generic health advising within sexual health services, offering specialised advice and support in providing a comprehensive service for investigation, treatment and control of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV.
To provide advice, information, education counselling and provide partner notification (PN) to patients diagnosed with sexually transmitted infections, e.g. chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis and hepatitis B and C. This service aims to impact positively on the experience of patients by providing high standards of care, advice and clinical practice, working across boundaries and in conjunction with primary and secondary care and other agencies.
