Role summary
This is a new Occupational Therapist role within the Community Forensic Team, focusing on developing and implementing services for service users. The team supports mentally disordered offenders and those with complex mental health needs involved in the criminal justice system. Key responsibilities
- Complete functional assessments using evidence-based tools and advise on intervention plans.
- Assess, deliver, and supervise graded activity.
- Complete community and home assessments.
- Provide high-standard clinical care, ensuring safe and effective assessment, treatment, and discharge planning.
- Delegate aspects of patient treatment plans to other team members, maintaining overall responsibility.
- Liaise with MAPPA, MOJ, and National Probation Service regarding high-risk individuals.
Essential criteria
- Current Occupational Therapist qualification
- Evidence of specialised continued professional development in clinical practice, included accredited training
- Relevant experience of working with adults with complex needs, or adults with mental health needs and skills that is transferable
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Experience of working with people presenting with a wide range of complex needs including forensic presentation
- Experience of managing clinical risk and making autonomous decisions based on analysis of complex presenting problems
- In depth knowledge of reasonable adjustments
- Demonstrable evidence of substantial experience of working with individuals in crisis and skills that are transferable to both community / inpatients
- Good understanding of community resources
- Highly developed clinical reasoning skills
- Highly developed skills in occupational therapy assessment and a range of interventions
- Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent understanding of the therapeutic relationship and boundaries
- Delegation whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients care, where appropriate
- Demonstrate the ability to lead a clinical team
- Highly motivated & able to engage with patients & carers to improve outcomes
- Ability to work independently and collectively
- Ability to travel independently throughout the county without the use of public transport. Current driving Licence is essential due to the extensive travel both internal and external to the county on a regular basis
Desirable criteria
- Training in Sensory Integration
- Management and Leadership training
- Knowledge of part 3 of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act
- Excellent working knowledge of the MOHO model
- Additional knowledge and/or training in sensory processing
- Equipment, including prescription

Job summary
The Community Forensic Team has an opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to join the team. This is a new role within the core team and we are excited to work alongside you to develop its implementation and growth for our service users.
We are looking for someone who embodies LPFT values and is able to work flexibly under their own initiative and as part of a wider MDT. Collaborative working is essential to this role as are excellent communication skills.
The Community Forensic Team (CFT), work with service users to support them to live their best lives in the community. We do this by providing specialist assessments and interventions for our patient group including those within the transforming care cohort. We work with mentally disordered offenders who present a significant risk of harm to others by nature of their mental disorder, including those subject to conditional discharge under Part 3 of the Mental Health Act or Supervised Community Treatment Orders (CTO's).
We work with those presenting with complex mental health needs who are involved in the criminal justice system including those conditionally discharged and living in the community under MOJ restrictions and with the Transforming Care cohort who present with forensic needs.
