Role summary
This role is for a senior Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse to join the multidisciplinary team at Gloucester Hospitals. You will manage patients throughout their lung cancer pathway, providing specialist supportive care and developing personalised cancer care pathways. The post involves leadership, data analysis for service improvement, and running nurse-led clinics. You will also coordinate patient care from diagnosis to end-of-life, ensuring continuity across services.
Key responsibilities
- Work as a core member of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist supportive care to lung cancer patients.
- Support the personalised cancer care agenda and develop risk stratified pathways.
- Provide advice, support, and leadership within clinical teams.
- Attend and participate in lung MDT meetings, communicating outcomes to patients/clinicians.
- Autonomously run nurse-led clinics, ensuring patients receive appropriate clinical and practical information.
- Coordinate patient care throughout the pathway, liaising with primary, secondary, and tertiary services.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of CPD in palliative and/or cancer care
- Advanced communication skills
- Significant experience at Band 5 or Band 6
Desirable criteria
- Non medical prescribing
- IR(ME)R training
- Physical assessment and clinical reasoning course

Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse, Band 6 (30 hours a week)
This is an opportunity to develop your clinical & professional practice as a senior nurse within the lung cancer team across Gloucester Hospitals. You will work as a core member of the multidisciplinary team to the highest standard of specialist supportive care managing patients throughout their lung cancer pathway.
The post holder will also support the personalised cancer care agenda and develop risk stratified pathways in order to continue the development and improvement of cancer care provision that is received by our patients, their families and carers.
Main duties of the job
The post holder should demonstrate well-developed interpersonal, communication, negotiating and influencing skills demonstrated through experience of working in complex and demanding environments.
Providing advice, support and leadership within clinical teams.
Deliver against departmental and service objectives, achieving quality outcomes and prioritising own workload.
Collect and analyse data from various sources to assess impact of service to look for innovative ways of developing and managing the service more effectively such as digital triage and patient communication.
