Role summary
This role involves working on an adult female PICU mental health ward, supporting service users in accessing meaningful activities during their admissions. You will help patients with activities like gym access, jogging, art and craft groups, and cooking. The role requires working autonomously and as part of a wider team, including supporting patients during mealtimes and enhanced observations. It is a challenging but rewarding position.
Key responsibilities
- Work as an integrated member of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) within a rotational shift system.
- Contribute to the ongoing support of service users and their carers, helping them gain/re-gain Activities of Daily Living.
- Contribute to the protection of service users from abuse.
- Contribute to the health, safety and security of service users and their environment.
- Obtain, transmit and store information relating to the delivery of a care service.
- Support patients in accessing meaningful activity both on and off the ward, often leading 1:1 and group sessions.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level III or Higher in Health and Social Care or QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care or an Interest in completing the above training or can demonstrate the equivalent skills and knowledge gained through work (paid/unpaid)
- Demonstrates an understanding of the issues surrounding mental illness.
- Understands their duties and responsibilities under the Data Protection Act with regard to service user confidentiality.
- Working in a caring environment. For example, nursing home, care home, hospital ward, home carer etc.
- Working as part of a team
- Up to date or working knowledge of de-escalation techniques, Control and restraint and Management of Violence and Aggression (MOVA)

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of health and wellbeing worker on Byron ward at the Harbour!
This role will involve working on an adult female PICU mental health ward, supporting service users with accessing meaningful activity during their admissions. Examples of this may be around supporting patients to access the gym and sports hall, taking patients jogging, leading on art and craft groups on the ward, etc.
It is expected that the right person for the job will have the skills to work both autonomously and as part of the wider ward team. You will be supported by colleagues on the ward, as well as the wider occupational therapy team who will provide support and guidance.
This can be a challenging role, but a very rewarding role for the right person.
Supporting patients to access meaningful activity both on and off the ward, often leading on 1:1 and group sessions. These may include access to sports hall and exercise opportunities, as well as cooking groups, art and craft groups, gardening groups, etc.
At times you may also be required to support with meal times, supporting patients on enhanced levels of observations and supporting patients to attend appointments and with periods of escorted leave off the ward.
