Role summary

- Stroke specific knowledge
- Ability to work autonomously
- Demonstrable experience in assessment and management of stroke patients
- Work across division during unit cover and deputising for matron
- Evidence of supporting junior staff, supervision, teaching or service improvement
- Understanding of hyperacute, acute and rehabilitation stroke care
- Evidence of working effectively within MDTs

Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join our well established Stroke team at the Royal Derby Hospital. This team is a valuable source of knowledge and resource in Stroke across the trust, assessing, managing, treating and advising on Acute Stroke Care in numerous different settings.
They will be given the support and guidance to fulfil this role and it provides an excellent opportunity for personal development into a specialist nurse role, through competency packages, nurse prescribing and clinical decision making modules supported.
Whilst the role is for 23 hours there is an opportunity to increase this to full time, as another part time member of staff is going on maternity leave at the same time. Therefore, there will be an option to extend the hours for a year to full time.
Main duties of the job
To work within agreed role responsibilities escalating clinical issues for appropriate medical review. To provide an expert specialist nursing service.
Receives and prioritises direct referrals to Stroke across the trust. Assess patients with suspected Stroke and refer to appropriate area. Provide expert nursing advice and support to patient and carers. To support junior members of the team.
